As we were walking to school one day, we noticed a cherry blossom tree starting to bloom, early. Awed by its premature beauty, in a gaze, others were just as happy to welcome this early-bloomer, the bees. Quietly collecting nectar from the pink budding branches, we watched and waited and welcomed this delightful dance in anticipation of Spring. I wanted to, just as joyfully, welcome these sweet little creatures into our Sensory Bin, Learning Table … and our Shop.
Included in each set is one Rainbow Hive, and six miniature friends, each with tiny, colorful wingspans. The hive has room enough for the whole family to nest – such a great fine motor skill builder, even the bees would be impressed. They would be more than happy to meet, collectively swirling about their hive. Match up the colors and tuck them inside.
Use them as a teaching tool for colors. Use them as inspiration for discussions about Spring, Nature, Pollination, and Honey. This set is meant to be an “Add On” to a Sensory Bin – small enough to hide among, rice, beans, noodles, paper, confetti, or lentils. What a great little something for your little entomologist to find while excavating.
Each Hive measures just over 2” tall with six holes, one for each member of the family. It has been painting with a non-toxic watercolor wash and lightly sealed with an all natural beeswax.
Each little honey measures a little more than 1” long. Included is one of each color: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple. The wings have been painted with a non-toxic watercolor wash, and lightly sealed with beeswax.
Just as real bees, these are delicate critters. They are not intended for little hands (or mouths). My 4 year old is enjoying this in her Learning Center this Spring. As with all of the toys in the Rainbow Series, this set is not intended for little ones who still mouth things and is not meant to get wet. This set has small pieces and could pose a choking hazard risk. As with all toys, supervision is advised.
All of my creations were made with your little one in mind. Each piece was designed to nurture child development through open-ended play. These pieces can be used to broaden your little one's understanding and knowledge of our world and were created as early educational toys. I am inspired by the teachings of Montessori; the natural beauty of Waldorf; and incorporate a myriad of other learning-through-play philosophies when I design. It makes me smile to see my made-with-love pieces being toted for use as preschool toys and in natural play settings. Thank you for helping me support little minds, bodies, and imaginations through engaging, hands-on play and discovery.
Sensory Based Learning
Mama May i believes little ones make sense of their world through sensing our world. That's why you will find all of our designs offer a variety of tactile learning-through-play opportunities. We use a myriad of different textures and surfaces intertwined to make the most of every little play-and-learn time you share.
Kid Tested, Mama Approved
My own little ones have the wonderfully engaging job of "product testers". They are my inspiration for new products as well as my initial testing market. I don't add things to the product line that aren't played with and loved first at home.
Making Mama Earth Smile
Mama May i strives to reduce the impact of our products on the environment and your little one. We avoid the use of harsh chemicals and varnishes and instead, use plant based pigments, and organic beeswax to finish our wooden playthings. We use mostly untreated Poplar, Maple, and Oak that is locally sourced. We know how important your little one's safety is and we won't sell anything we wouldn't let our own little ones enjoy.
